Police: DUI-drugs to blame for early morning crash in Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — Police say a woman fell asleep at the wheel while under the influence of opiates and crashed her car in Rockingham early Friday morning.

The incident happened at around 1:36 a.m. on Vermont Route 121, near Barber Park Road.

According to police, the preliminary investigation into the single-vehicle crash revealed that Eva Shepard, 29, of Saxtons River, was headed west when she fell asleep while operating her Subaru Impreza.

Shepard was transported by ambulance to the Springfield Hospital, and police say she was under the influence of opiates at the time.

She was processed for DUI-drugs and issued a citation to appear in Windham County Court on June 21, 2016.

Her vehicle was totaled during the crash.
