Brattleboro man arrested for holding victims at gunpoint

BRATTLEBORO – Police arrested a Brattleboro man on Monday for allegedly pointing a gun at two victims on Thursday evening.

Police responded to a suspicious complaint on Old Guilford Road at approximately 5:24 p.m.

Police say, during the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect held two victims at gunpoint. The victims were allowed to leave unharmed, according to authorities.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as John Merrick, 50, of Brattleboro on Monday.

Merrick was released early Tuesday morning and was ordered to appear in court to answer to two charges of aggravated assault, two charges of reckless endangerment and a charge for possessing a firearm after being convicted of a violent crime.
