PERU — A 57-year-old hiker died on the Long Trail in a shelter in Peru.
On Sunday, at around 12:00 p.m., police and rescue workers were called to the scene of a man hiking the Long Trail who had become ill and eventually unresponsive in the area of the Peru Peak Shelter near Griffith Lake in the town of Peru.
Police say resuscitation efforts failed and the man was determined to be deceased.
State police are still investigating the cause and manner of death.
The name of the victim has not been released yet, pending notification of next of kin.
