Huge fireball seen over Northeastern U.S.

BURLINGTON — At around 1:50 a.m. last night, a blazing fireball flashed across the sky and exploded over Ontario, Quebec and several northeastern U.S.

The American Meteor Society say they have received 425 reports so far about the fireball.

The event was seen primarily from Maine, but witnesses from Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ontario, and Québec also reported the event.

The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum is reported to be offering a $20,000 reward if someone recovers a piece of the meteorite weighing at least a kilogram.
