20-year-old man dies from injuries after Whitingham crash

WHITINGHAM — A 20-year-old man from Gardner, Mass. died as a result of an early morning car crash on Tunnel Street, and police say the driver will face charges after fleeing the scene.

Jordan Belliveau, 20, was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center after being airlifted for treatment following the accident.

The crash took place at around 2:00 a.m., when Belliveau became entrapped in the vehicle after it collided with a tree. He had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Readsboro Fire Department.

He was airlifted by medical helicopter from the scene.

The driver, identified by police as Patrick Belliveau, 24, of Gardner, Mass. was screened for alcohol and drug impairment and his blood alcohol level was determined to be .089 percent.

He was located approximately four miles away from the scene before being taken into custody.

Patrick Belliveau is being charged with gross negligent operation serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

Police say Belliveau may also be charged with driving under the influence.

Tunnel Street was closed to traffic for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated.
